Dr Harsha Kumar K is a Dental Specialist and Implantologist and is currently working as the Vice-Principal and Professor & Head of Prosthodontics & Implantology, Government Dental college, Trivandrum, Kerala, India. He has contributed immensely to the progress of Dental Implantology in the state of Kerala. He was born to Mr.P.Karunakaran and Mrs.K.Rajamma in a small village named Ezhukone in Kollam District. As a student he always performed exceptionally well in his studies and had his graduation (BDS) and postgraduation (MDS) from the prestigious Government Dental college, Trivandrum in the year 1988 &1993 respectively.

Dr Harsha Kumar is regarded as the pioneer Dental Implantologist in this part of the country and is blessed with a unique blend of Clinical expertise, Teaching skills, Research motive & Leadership qualities. Advanced training from Germany and American Academy of Implant Dentistry enabled him to scale greater heights in the field of Oral Implantology. Throughout the thirty years in professional career, he has been determined to develop a simplified form of Dental Implantation which is now well accepted by the clinicians and patients. His passion, perseverance and dedication as Dental Implantologist keeps him busy round the clock.

He is the recipient of several prestigious awards including the “Best Doctor Award” from the Government of Kerala, the “Danthacharya Award” from the Kerala Dental Council of the Government of Kerala and the “Best Teacher Award” from the Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur. He is also the first Dental Specialist to be appointed as the Dental Consultant to the Hon’ble Governor of Kerala. During the inaugural Ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Government Medical College, Trivandrum, he received the “Distinguished Alumnus Award” from the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala, Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan. He has delivered several Keynote lectures and Orations during Dental Conferences within the country & abroad.

Considering his contributions in the field of Prosthodontics and Implantology, he was appointed as expert in various academic bodies of the University of Kerala, Kerala University of Health Sciences and the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. He organised numerous Conferences, Seminars & Workshops for educating Dental practitioners and specialists across the Nation. Many of his inventions were published in reputed journals of Prosthodontics and Implantology. He has published more than 150 scientific articles and authored a book for the Lambert Academic Publishing, Germany. He was nominated by the Government of Kerala in several prestigious positions for the upbringing of Dental fraternity in the state. He has made a remarkable contribution to the field of Prosthodontics while serving as the President of the Indian Prosthodontic Society, Kerala State Branch. This paved his way to receive National recognition award from The Indian Prosthodontic Society.

Dr Harsha Kumar continues to extend his invaluable contributions to the society and to the field of dentistry with ultimate dedication. He is married to Smt. Sheeja Harshakumar who is an entrepreneur. He is blessed with two daughters Dr Sruthy and Dr Madhuri.
